Our education programs stem from early childhood development through GED Programs for adults. Our Literacy Is For Everyone Program (LIFE) is for grades 1-5 and has over 200 students enrolled and a waitlist of over 50. Every student receives one on one tutoring and uses the I-Ready software to pinpoint their educational gaps. Every child is given a well balanced hot meal, for many children, it may be their only hot meal of the day. Certified teachers facilitate our GED program. They aid community members in studying and successfully passing the GED test.
LIFE - Literacy Is For Everyone
This program focuses on elevating the reading levels and learning abilities of the boys and girls in our local community. Through our iReady program, our children are given a unique, one-on-one teaching environment, ensuring that the every student receives the exact assistance that he or she needs.
DID YOU KNOW?
A student not reading at his or her grade level by the end of the third grade is four times less likely to graduate high school on time–six times less likely for students from low-income families.
80% of prison inmates in the United States cannot read beyond the a third grade reading level. The private prisons in our nation watch the test scores of the third grade reading tests to determine how many beds they will need in the upcoming years.
IN 2016, 100% OF OUR THIRD GRADERS PASSED THE READING PROFICIENCY TEST.
SINCE OUR PROGRAM BEGAN IN 2006, WE HAVE BROUGHT LITERACY TO OVER 1,000 NORTH TULSA STUDENTS.
Our medical services provides primary care services to the uninsured in North Tulsa. Many people in the community do not qualify or cannot afford any medical insuranc. Through a partnership with St. John Health System and Good Samaritan Health Services, the medical clinic has a group of volunteer physicians, volunteer nurses, one part-time paid doctor, and two part-time paid registered nurses who help provide the healthcare needs of those who come to TDC.
Our food programs range from on-site hot meals to grocery giveaways to community members. We feed close to 1,000 children and families hot meals that may not otherwise have been able to have a meal. Three times a week we have grocery assistance at our Grocery Giveaway. We can provide needy families with fresh produce and dry goods. This program is vital for the North Tulsa, as this community has been identified as a “food desert,” due to a lack of complete grocery stores that are readily accessible with nutritional goods.
Our clothing room is our highest traffic area where people can receive clothing items from infants to adults. We also provide lightly used household items & furniture.
These programs re-direct children away from the streets and into a positive environment which is safe and secure. Along with being coached in a particular sport, children are also mentored and trained in leadership, team building skills, and character development. Many of our sports teams have traveled around the region, competing at some of the highest levels of competition. This program gives them a great opportunity to receive athletic scholarships.
